1. Observe the symptoms of the malware infection
    A. Machine is slow relative to previous usage
    B. Inordinate amount of pop-ups while web surfing
    C. Internet connectivity is compromised
    D. Inexplicable freezes or crashes
    E. Ransom demand pop-ups
2. Research possible solutions to specific symptoms on Internet
3. Turn Off Suspicious Startup Items
    A. Windows 10 and Up: Use Task Manager\Startup Items
    B. Windows 8 and lower: Use MSConfig
4. Install a malware removal scanning tool, update, and scan.  My favorites:
    A. Malwarebytes Antimalware
    B. Spybot Search and Destroy
    C. SuperAntispyware
5. Reboot Machine
6. Re-scan with Same Malware Removal Tool; No items found? Machine most likely clean
7.  Update Installed Antivirus definitions and scan
8. Use machine and look for evidence of continued infection

The following elements are necessary to protect your network:
1. Hardware firewall with a security services subscription
2. Secure remote access usually via VPN
3. Antivirus protection on all workstations
4. Network access controlled by central authentication authority such as a Windows Server
5. Enforced password changing policy
6. Network shares controlled through share and security permissions
7. Secure wireless network access
8. Physical security of Server and networking equipment
9. Windows Updates on all LAN machines
